Happy November everyone!
In our previous post we mentioned what going mobile can mean for the potential of your
internet marketing campaign. Mobile stands for everything that an
inbound marketing strategy strives toward. The invitation and the engagement; the two-way communication that generates new leads and closes the gap of entry point to purchase much more quickly.
Inbound puts the the "in" in invitation. Ideally, when people are looking for something; they will seek you out. You want to connect to them, educate them and solidify some professional authority with them. They are your audience and they are going to use your website for its many features. Chances are if they are on your page they are looking for something you have to offer.
The shift from a traditional website to mobile is simple when you understand the difference between the two. Desktop vs. mobile are two different concepts. Mobile means the user is on-the-go and likely looking for urgent action such as your location, directions, a phone number you can click to call, or a quick single-item purchase online. Though they may need something more.
Adhere to the philosophy that mobile web design should be simple, user-friendly and ultra-efficient, and your mobile adaptation will be a success!
Here are a few tips for optimizing your website for mobile users:
- Localize your business by claiming it on a location-based platform so people can better get directions and maps to your location. Google Places or a Facebook Place page are great tools.
- A simple design--take advantage of white space and make your site steamlined--a few simple key task options and only a few pages to click through because mobile takes longer to load.
- Very few text entry-slots--replace them with check boxes or drop menus wherever you are able...people are not going to want to fill out too many fields when they are mobile.
- Use mobile re-directs for your site--these detect when a visitor is mobile and redirect them to your mobile site version and some platforms even detect the screen size in pixels and format automatically.
- Match your branding between sites--hire a designer to pick key elements and schemes to compliment your full site version.
- Consider running a Mobile Ad campaign--a small investment than can have significant returns.
- Simplify, simply, simply....just de-clutter as much as possible, keep maintenance to a minimum, test for dead links from different mobile phones and your transition will be much smoother.
- Be creative in your design--consider hiring a designer to make your user interfaces unique and tailored to the needs of your business.
